Because these diets eliminate meat, followers should consume foods that supply zinc, vitamin B12, protein, and calcium. Protein deficiency leads to joint and muscle pain, irritability, and fatigue. Protein deficiency is a serious concern in children because it can lead to pancreatic and digestive disorders, mental retardation, and compromised immune system.
To avoid complications, vegans and vegetarians consume beans, green leafy vegetables, soya, and seeds. Vegetarians also eat dairy products such as yogurt, milk, sour cream, and cottage cheese. The Raw Food Diet is a variation of veganism and is based on the idea that heat breaks down nutrients and enzymes which are important for health. The menu of raw foodists consists mainly of raw seeds and nuts, beans, and plenty of fruit and vegetables. This diet is not suitable for people with a weakened immune system because there are bacteria in raw meat and dairy products.
The Bland Diet
The Bland Diet is designed for people who have medical problems. The menu consists of soft food such as cooked vegetables and fruit, low-fat dairies, eggs, and shellfish. Dieters can have soups, tofu, custard, puddings, and bread. The menu also includes tender, lean meats such as whitefish and poultry. Meat can be prepared in different ways, including grilled, baked, and steamed. In addition, dieters can consume peanut butter, oatmeal, and frozen and canned vegetables.
This diet is a good option for people with digestive problems such as heartburn and ulcers. It is also used to treat diarrhea, vomiting, and gas. Patients follow this diet after intestinal or stomach surgery. Dieters are not allowed to eat foods that are high in fiber or to drink coffee and alcohol. You can drink weak tea instead of coffee. The consumption of raw, fried, and spicy foods is not allowed.
Vegetables such as corn, green peppers, and cabbage should be avoided. The list of banned foods also includes nuts and seeds, pickles, whole grain pasta and breads, and smoked fish and meats. Dieters should drink water and other fluids slowly.
There are many other diets, including detox plans and belief-based diets. Detox plans aim to cleanse the body from toxic substances and limit the consumption of foods with preservatives and colorings. Belief-based diets include the Kosher, Word of Wisdom, and Buddhist diets and the Islamic dietary laws.
